Prof. Chandra Kanneganti has been working as General Practitioner in National Health Service for over 22 years and now runs 3 practices in the city of Stoke on Trent, UK. Looking to further his commitment to helping the community he decided to enter politics, winning a seat as Councillor from Goldenhill & Sandyford on his first attempt and eventually served as Lord Mayor of the City of Stoke on Trent in 2020-21. He ran for Member of Parliament for Stoke on Trent (Central) in 2024 elections. Prof Kanneganti’s professional journey was always intertwined with public service. He has been recognised nationally in UK as a leading voice for International origin doctors who come from many different countries including India. He has served as the National Chairman and National President of the British Indian Doctors Association (BIDA).
Prof Chandra is also a well known face in the region and is involved in care industry in North Staffordshire, UK. In addition, he hascontributed immensely to reducing inequalities and improving services as part of the Staffordshire Integrated Care System.
At national level, he is a Royal college of GP council observer member and BMA GP committee member for many years supporting GP colleagues and GP practices across the country. Prof Chandra Kanneganti has been awarded the CBE in the King’s New year Honours and was recognised for his service to General Practice and promoting equality and diversity in the UK.
